Guided by Richard Lewis — a highly respected, National Hedgelaying Society-accredited hedgelayer with years of experience — you’ll gain both knowledge and practical skills in this traditional countryside craft.

Over the two days, you will learn:

  • The history and purpose of hedgelaying, and its vital role in farmland and countryside management
  • How hedges support biodiversity and deliver incredible ecological and wildlife benefits
  • Safe use of hand tools and how to use each effectively
  • Laying, staking, and binding techniques in the traditional Montgomeryshire style

This course is suitable for complete beginners — no experience or equipment required. Simply bring warm outdoor clothing, sturdy footwear, and a good pair of gardening or leather gloves.

Whether you are a farmer, land manager, conservationist or are interested in learning a new skill, this course will provide you with the skills and confidence to begin hedgelaying yourself.
