Hedgelaying Weekend Course ~ 31st October – 1st November 2026

Discover the timeless craft of hedgelaying on our organic regenerative farm in Welshpool, Powys, with a relaxed, hands-on two-day course.

It’s led by Richard Lewis, an experienced hedgelayer and tutor accredited by the National Hedgelaying Society. The course suits complete beginners and people with hedgelaying experience who want to expand their knowledge! Lunch, cake and plenty of tea and coffee are included on both days.

What you’ll learn

Over the two days you will learn:

• The history and purpose of hedgelaying, and its role in farmland and countryside management
• How laid hedges support biodiversity and benefit wildlife
• How to use hand tools safely and effectively
• Laying, staking and binding techniques in the traditional Welsh Border style

Who is this course for?

The course is for anyone who wants to learn to lay a hedge, or expand on previous experience, including farmers, land managers, conservationists and complete beginners. You’ll leave with the skills and confidence to start hedgelaying on your own.
